OHS vs. LO (2/12/24) - Senior Night

13 Feb 2024 by Paslean, Jon

Senior night and the last OAA match of the year for Oxford would take place on Monday night at Collier Lanes. We bid farewell and good luck to 10 seniors between the 2 schools. But first we must battle each other on the lanes.
The girls split bakers and Lake Orion held a 10 to 4 lead going into head up matches. Game 1 of head up is where the Wildcats took control winning all 5 matches. Kiley Penzien led all scorers with a 219 game. The girls would need just 3 points to win the match and revenge the earlier loss this season. Game 2 the Wildcats girls won 4 matches and the game to make the final score 23 to 7. Leading the way in game 2 was Elleanna Ford with a 200 game. Senior Haley Verbeke won both her matches as did Senior Kiley Penzien. Maya Vetch 167, Kaya Coffman 166, Kaitlyn Mcfadden 160, and Phebe Coffman 166 all won a point for the Wildcats.
The boys’ match was much more dramatic. After sweeping the Baker games 219 to 167 and 191 to 167 the Wildcat boys stumbled. LO sweep all 5 matches and dominated the Wildcats in the first head up game. The score going into the last head-to-head game was now 10-9. The Boys in blue rallied like the have all year. They marked 24 of the last 25 frames as a team and won the last game 953 to 865. Freshman Eli Wright paced the Wildcat comeback with the last 4 strikes in route to a fine 233 game. Sr Captain Jacob Chouinard made clutch shots down the stretch and scored a 218. Final score Wildcats 16 Dragons 14. The Oxford Boys team finished the season 15 and 0.
It’s always bittersweet when this match takes place. The two teams spent a lot of time together and build friendships and relationships on and off the lanes. We wish all 7 Oxford and 3 Lake Orion seniors the best for the future.
The teams compete in a league event and regionals next.
